At long last, I will be adding two demo websites to the Pixaria Gallery website to show off some of the innovative features that have made the script so popular with photographers from all backgrounds.
The demo sites, which will be launched by March 1st 2006, will provide examples of how the script can be configured for different uses and give potential users the chance to get in and play with features like the lightboxes, e-cards and search tools that come with Pixaria.
As always, watch this space for more details and in the meantime, feel free to check out my personal site at http://galleries.longstaff.org/
Permalink del.icio.us Digg itThe hosting company I use for this website is undergoing a relocation of the main server datacentre from Manchester to London and this may affect some services on this site in the next day or two.
This move will have an impact on the documentation pages for Pixaria Gallery, PopPhoto Studio and PopCard Greetings as well as the ability to purchase software from the purchase link on this site.
I'm assured that normal service should resume by 1200 GMT on Monday, February 27th.
Permalink del.icio.us Digg itI've added a new tool to the website to assist people looking to upgrade versions of Pixaria without breaking the theme templates. The tool is based on what is called a 'Diff Engine' which is basically a fancy system for comparing text files.
The template difference viewer allows you to see which template files have changed between releases and to view the changed code in each file on a line by line basis.
Currently this tool is in beta and there are a couple of issues which I'm aware of, not least the fact that archiving template files on the server for comparison uses a lot of storage space!
Feel free to have a go with the tool and let me know how you get on with it!

Permalink del.icio.us Digg itThe updates keep coming and we're now up to Pixaria Gallery version 1.0.3!
This is another quite big update and makes a lot of changes and improvements from version 1.0.2. The major new addition here is the ability to have links to view large images open in popup windows which makes it easier to browse galleries and thumbnail lists. To complement this, it's also possible to have links to add items to the cart or lightbox open in popup windows as well.
Another major new feature in this update is an integrated log to track user logins. The login tracker stores the time, date, IP address and remote host each time a user logs in to your site. This allows you to see when users are visiting and where they come from (by hostname). An important component of this feature is the ability to highlight users who have logged in from lots of different IP addresses which may indicate that they are sharing their registration information.
You'll find plenty of bug fixes in this update as well so for all the details, check out the version history and file changelog pages.
Permalink del.icio.us Digg itI'm pleased to announce that after a lot of work, Pixaria Gallery 1.0.2 is now available! This update includes preliminary support for accepting PayPal payments as well as numerous new features, changes and bugfixes.
For any existing users upgrading, I strongly recommend looking at the file changelog and version history especially if you've made any customised themes or theme template files. A lot of the underlying information available to theme template files has been changed and improved in this release with the intention of making it easier to build custom themes. Please refer any problems to me via the discussion forum.
Full details of all the changes in this version of the script can be found in the version history and file changelog.
Permalink del.icio.us Digg itAs development proceeds with Pixaria Gallery, another update is in the works offering a host of new features and bug fixes.
New for this update will be a much requested feature that allows the admin to keep a log of all the keywords visitors search for on your website. Not only can you view the keywords people wanted to find but you can also see those that they wanted to exclude from their searches giving you the ability to see what kinds of material your visitors are interested in.
Other new features for this release are an admin option to disable search tools, the ability to create new galleries directly from the list of orphaned images and an option to specify the name of the import directory used when importing images from an FTP upload session.
Full details of the changes so far in this update can be found in the forum and more details will be posted before the update is released in due course.
