New RSS news feed for forum posts

If you like to keep up to date with the latest forum posts, you can now subscribe to an RSS feed of the most recent blog postings. This is an experimental (dare I say beta) service and your feedback would be appreciated if this is something you think you will use regularly.

To subscribe to the feed, you will need either an RSS client like NetNewsWire or NewsGator or alternatively, a web browser like Firefox 2, Safari 2 or Internet Explorer 7. When you're user you have the right software, follow the link to the forum RSS feed in the right hand navigation on the front page of the website.

Zip upload support added to Pixaria 1.5.2

In what will hopefully be the last update to Pixaria for a few weeks, version 1.5.2 is now available adding a major new feature - support for uploading compressed archives of images in Zip, Tar, Gzip and Tgz formats.

Also new in this update is an improved user interface for the image importing functions which have been redesigned to make them more intuitive and easy to use. All importing functions can now be accessed from a single control panel in the admin area through an AJAX enhanced import wizard. This update also includes a number of minor enhancements and bug fixes to previous versions so be sure to check the version history to see what's new!

Pixaria 1.5.1 is out now!

I completely forgot to post an article to say that version 1.5.1 is done and available for anyone who would like to install it. This update fixes a couple of bugs and makes a few improvements across the script.

News about Pixaria Gallery version 2

Today I'm starting work on version 2.0 of Pixaria Gallery which I'm aiming to release later this year. In a break from my previous development methods, I will be building version 2.0 from a branch of Pixaria made at version 1.5.2 and maintaining two separate concurrent builds of the script so as to be able to maintain the current stable release while I work on the next big update.

At the moment, I can't honestly say when version 2.0 is going to be released or even give a likely date so I wouldn't advise waiting for it if you're planning to get started with Pixaria any time in the next three to four months. Nearer to the release date, I will invite selected current users to take part in a private beta programme.

Over the next week, I will be deciding on the fixed feature set that I want to include in version 2.0 and will actively avoid adding anything else during development so as to ensure it actually gets out of the door. I'm hoping that by taking a more rigourous and disciplined approach to work on version 2.0 it will be completed faster and as the most stable release of Pixaria yet.

To save anyone asking, I will not be publishing any details of what will be included in version 2.0 until the release. This is to avoid disappointment in case anything has to be cut out.

Pixaria Gallery version 1.5.1 is on the way

Hopefully later today I will be releasing version 1.5.1 of Pixaria gallery which fixes a couple of annoyances in version 1.5.0 relating to appearance of pop-up windows and a lack of formatting on the login screens.

The new update also gives the news pages of Pixaria a complete visual overhaul and fixes a bug that would prevent images being correctly added to a gallery after they have been imported.

The forums are back online

Quicker than I had planned, I've managed to get the forums back online with a new look and feel to match the main site redesign. The forums now have their very own home at http://www.PixariaCentral.com.

Please note that for various reasons, I'm a little bit behind on replying to some forum topics. If you have an urgent enquiry you are (as always) encouraged to e-mail me!

Improvements to the Pixaria documentation

Along with the site redesign, I've also taken the opportunity to make some improvements to the documentation. There are three new topics in the section on customisation covering how to change the masthead graphic, where CSS templates are stored and how to change them and instructions for adding your own custom pages.

Also new is a search function to help you find the answers you need in the documentation more effectively.

For those who missed it, I also added a new section to the installation instructions last week which covers some basic ideas and suggestions for improving the security of your Pixaria website.

New Pixaria Website

As we leap through 2007 and bound merrily into May, the Pixaria.com website gets its first major overhaul in nearly a year. The new design is intended to be easier to navigate and provide access to more tools and features like the newly released Aperture Export Plug-in and searchable documentation.
