Pixaria 2.3 Coming Soon

Posted on Monday, May 19, 2008

Work is now wrapping up on Pixaria Gallery version 2.3 which will bring a couple of much requested features when it lands later this month. The main highlight of this update will be the ability for administrators to create instant image download products based on high-resolution or comping images.

This will make it possible to sell images at multiple sizes for fixed products, a feature that will be expanded to include images purchased through the price calculation system later this summer. To create a new image download product, administrators will use the product manager selecting the new product type option for an instant download and choosing the size of image to offer - currently limited to either original high-resolution or comping image.

After 2.3 is released, this feature will be expanded to enable administrators to sell images at any size they wish provided an image at the specified resolution is available on the server.

The second major improvement in version 2.3 will be the inclusion of a new Java based FTP upload applet that will include the ability to resize images as well as uploading them. This should make uploading and import large images as simple as drag and drop.

The new upload applet has been developed for Pixaria in collaboration with JFileUpload and as it is a commercial product in its own right, administrators wishing to use it, will need to purchase a license from the developers. I'll post details of the license fees nearer the launch date but I believe it will currently be in the region of $50 (US).

Version 2.3 will also feature some requested improvements to the navigation in the admin area, a new database export tool and various minor bugfixes and improvements.
