Pixaria 3.3.7 Now Available

Posted on Tuesday, August 16, 2011

I'm pleased to announce the availability of Pixaria Gallery and Pixaria AssetDeck versions 3.3.7. The new update includes a number of important bug fixes and improvements to the library and gallery management tools and is a recommended upgrade for all current users. In particular, performance of galleries containing up to 150,000 files has been dramatically improved and there is a new image fader template plugin which is now based on jQuery rather than PrototypeJS.

Perceptive readers will have noticed that I didn't announce version 3.3.6 which is due to the fact that this release was targeted specifically at a single enterprise user and would very soon be succeeded by version 3.3.7.

As always, all registered users are entitled to upgrade for free by e-mailing me at upgrade@pixaria.com. I will shortly be introducing online upgrade downloads for registered users which will mean you won't need to e-mail me in future to get the last version.

Pixaria 3.3.5 Now Available

Posted on Wednesday, August 3, 2011

I'm pleased to report that Pixaria Gallery and Pixaria AssetDeck versions 3.3.5 are now available for all registered users. The latest update includes some exciting new features and a number of important user interface enhancements in the admin area of the software.

The biggest change in this update is the addition of the jQuery javascript library to the front end user interface. jQuery is being introduced as a replacement for the PrototypeJS library currently found in Pixaria which will be phased out over the course of next 12 months. Just one of the many advantages of jQuery is that it has enabled me to implement a new slideshow tool in the front end which is based on prettyPhoto and includes timed slideshow support, keyboard navigation and an attractive, modern design.

In the admin area, I have given the gallery browser and gallery list views a major overhaul, reducing on screen clutter and improving the performance of drag and drop image and gallery reorganisation. I've also implemented iPad style pop-over menus for some user interface controls which make it easier to access tools for working with images and galleries.

For users working with large galleries, I have also added support for batch editing the contents of a gallery without first having to list the files. This addresses an issue where it could become impossible to do a batch edit on very large galleries.

Another important addition to version 3.3.5 is support for SMTP in Pixaria's mail functions. SMTP e-mail integration makes it possible to route messages using a standard mail account rather than PHP's built in mail function and is highly recommended to ensure that messages are not treated as SPAM by the recipient. The new SMTP features include support for authenticated accounts that require a username and password to log in to.

As always, all registered users are entitled to upgrade for free by e-mailing me at upgrade@pixaria.com. I will shortly be introducing online upgrade downloads for registered users which will mean you won't need to e-mail me in future to get the last version.
