Website Profile: Spectrum Textures

Spectrum Textures is a specialist, free stock photography library focusing on textures & backgrounds. Featuring a wealth of unusual and original photography, this website is a gold mine for any creative professional looking for distinctive artwork for a project.

How did Spectrum Textures get started and what gave you the idea?

Spectrum Textures was an idea I'd had for some years but it was about three years ago that I realised all the elements were there to do it all myself without relying on the larger image libraries. The cameras, scanners, computers and software were all at a stage where I could really put my idea into practice. I combined the technology with my experience from the graphics industry and got to work in my spare time.

Where do your photographs come from?

With the exception of a few, the images are all mine, some are shot indoors and some scanned in. The rest are mostly from the U.K. but some are from trips abroad and include interesting places like Hong Kong, Monaco and America. It's a good excuse to travel and I intend to do more.

What do you consider to be your unique proposition?

I work in the creative industry and I think this helps me produce what people are looking for when they need textures and backgrounds.

What drove you to choose Pixaria Gallery as your image library software?

The software has a good look and feel to it, a bit like the Apple website. It makes a difference when you spend a long time in front of a screen and I know creatives appreciate this kind of thing. Whilst preparing the site I found the menus to be logical and clear and did a good job at keeping the techie stuff to a minimum.

What are your plans for the future?

There are still many images I intend to shoot and a realistic goal is to double the size of the library
