Set up the database

SQL Database requirements

Pixaria Gallery stores your image library and settings in a MySQL database and the Pixaria Gallery package includes an SQL installation script that will set up all the database tables required for you.

In order to make administering Pixaria Gallery as simple as possible, it's a good idea to use a database admin tool with a graphical user interface, such as phpMyadmin. Most hosting companies provide access to PHPMyAdmin via a web based control panel as part of their package. If in doubt, contact your hosting company for assistance.

Selecting a database to use for Pixaria

The first thing you'll need is a database for the Pixaria Gallery data to be stored in. This can be either an existing database or one created especially for your Pixaria installation.

Some hosting companies limit the number of individual databases you can create and not all of them allow you to use phpMyadmin to create databases either, choosing instead to provide tools for creating databases in their control panel websites. Consult your hosting company's documentation or technical support for assistance if you have problems creating or choosing a database to use for Pixaria.

The default database name suggested in the Pixaria configuration file is 'psg_4' but this can be anything you want - just make sure that you enter whatever database name you choose into the configuration file for Pixaria Gallery as discussed in the section on configuration.

Importing the Pixaria database settings

Included in the Pixaria Gallery package is a text file in the 'resources/databases' folder called 'pixaria.complete.sql'. This file contains SQL commands to set up the Pixaria database and minimal information to get the software up and running.

You will need to import this data into MySQL by uploading the SQL file to PHPMyAdmin from your computer:

If all goes according to plan, the data will load into your new database and you will be ready to run Pixaria Gallery.
