Cooliris, formerly known as PicLens, is a web browser plug-in that provides interactive full-screen slideshows of online images. The plugin is available for Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. At present, the software is compatible with many online image services such as Google Image Search, Yahoo! Image Search, Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa, Fotki, FotoTime, SmugMug, Facebook, YouTube (for videos) and any web site that implements mediaRSS <link> tags in their HTML pages.
Once installed, the CoolIris software adds an icon to the web browser toolbar which activates when the user navigates to a web page which contains compatible images. It also places a small icon in the corner of linked image thumbnails (when the mouse cursor hovers over the thumbnail image) which launches the CoolIris full screen viewer when the user clicks on the icon.
From version 2.7, Pixaria Gallery supports the media RSS feed format used by CoolIris which enables visitors to use the CoolIris plugin to browse images in galleries.
Support for CoolIris can be enabled for any gallery simply by checking the tick box 'Publish RSS for this gallery' in the gallery settings page. Administrators should note that the RSS feeds respect all user access control permissions for both galleries and images.
Because of the way in which CoolIris works, users accessing Pixaria Gallery websites from behind firewalls or with restricted internet access may not be able to use CoolIris even if the browser plug-in is installed.
